LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

Dear  Sir,

This refers to this scribe’s reference to Brigadier Bashir of Valtoha/Leaguer fame who was mistakenly referred to as Major General Bashir who commanded 6 Armoured Division, raised 23 Division and later commanded 37 Division. The error inadvertently committed is regretted.

This reminds me of a far more graver error committed when the Mughal King Humayun was resurrected to fight the Second Battle of Panipat in an officially sponsored book in 1992 or when an official historian changed the route of a Sikh unit declaring that it had infiltrated behind Pakistani Eines from South of Sutlej in 1965! A more fatal error was committed by the Allies once they mistakenly ordered the German General Jodl to death and executed him. One of the judges who had sentenced him later declared that the verdict was a mistake. (Page-363-The trial of the Germans-Eugene Davidson-Newyork 1966). Jodl’s widow was thus recompensated by restoration of property etc!

Kind Regards

Dear Sir,

I don’t know if you are the right forum for this or not. I read your magazine on the web quite often. I have found it to be very informative and equal to any other international magazine. I also read some other geo-political magazines as well. While reading some of these magazines the thing that struck me most was the lack of articles from Pakistanis. In fact a letter published in ‘Air Forces’ magazine mentioned the fact that all reporting on South Asia was from Indian writers, who, obviously give everything their own twist. Pakistani achievements or even news like IDEAS 2000 or mention of Pakistani aircraft manufacturing capability is never presented. Even the crash of Indian HIND helicopters had a 2 page story. In his reply the Editor of the magazine denied any bias against Pakistan and wrote that he has been trying to find a contributer who can write from Pakistan on events or just informative articles regarding PAF. This is good PR as well as information to prospective buyers of services.I thought if I wrote to you, some of your usal writers might want to try this out. The web site of AIR FORCES magazine is: www.keymags.co.uk  and their email is edafm@keymags.demon.co.uk. Thanking you..................an overseas Pakistani-American wellwisher.

India’s trickery

THE Kashmir ceasefire extension announced by the Vajpayee government is a complete farce. All Indian moves are without sincerity, but with the ulterior move to prolong its unjust hold on Kashmir. I hope that the ‘freedom fighters’ will not fall into this trap. India continues to violate the human rights of the valley’s inhabitants. For Kashmiris this ceasefire makes no difference at all. The decisions are, in essence, a ploy to buy time to boost the morale of Indian troops in Kashmir.

If anything, Kashmir’s fighters should step up their offensive against the Indian state so that New Delhi will have no other option but to give up its control over the province that willy-nilly has been a part of India for the last 53 years. - Mohsin Meer, Abqaiq, Saudi Arabia
