Frankenstein’s monster casts shadow on daily life

Columnist Lt Col (Retd) ZAMAN MALIK sees the effect of nuclear weapons upon the Earth.

During the period of dark ages, the Western World never believed that war could be eliminated. It considered war as an instinctive part and parcel of man’s life. It has continued to believe that the life in its broadest meaning was the shifting outcome of destructive and constructive propensities. (America proved it in the 1980s and is also currently busy in proving it across the global village). Therefore, it concluded that man’s destructiveness could not be restricted and consequently, ban on weapon development was impossible. But while maintaining that assumption, it did not bother to subject itself to a paralyzing paradox or contradiction, by saying that the war however, could be restricted! As a result, the world came to see the first evidence of the birth of the Frankenstein’s Monster when it was landed at Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

After the Second World War, the flaws in the prevailing order were conspicuous in the inability of sovereign states organised as United Nations to exorcise the spectre of war, the threatened collapse of international economic order, the spread of anarchy and terrorism, and the intense sufferings which these and the other afflictions were causing to increasing millions. Indeed, as much had aggression and conflict come to characterize out social, economic, and religious systems, that, many had succumbed to the view that such behaviour was indeed intrinsic to human nature (as was presumed during the dark ages of the West), and therefore ineradicable. So therefore, the human beings were incorrigible selfish and aggressive, and thus incapable of erecting a social system at once progressive and peaceful, dynamic and harmonious, as system, giving free play to individual creativity and initiative, but based on cooperation and reciprocity. The fault, after the Second World War lay with those who were there to set out the systems within the UNO. The bug was kept in the UNSC which was organized to serve the interests of the big powers — Veto powers. Instead of making it an institution that were to be above the politics to do justice impartially to all the members, it was made as a political institution to ensure the fulfilment of the big-wig’s interests. And it continues unabated today also, when it has involved the global village into an all pervading civil war arena — the civil war that will take many many long years before peace returns. Pakistanis must therefore, look far ahead, think with cold-blooded logic, and crush those thoughts that were to destroy Afghanistan, due to infighting amongst Muslims. Whatever the earthly cause the warlords had created to resort to infighting amongst the Muslim brethren, it was all against the express wishes of Allah, Who has called upon Muslims to remain steadfast and hold the rope of Allah that has been stretched out to them, firmly. No, all those, and some of them, who are creating the same hatred amongst the Muslims here in Pakistan too, are working for self- perpetuation, own rule, to implement the orders of Zionism. They are demagogues par excellence, and will create intrigue here too, in the name of Islam. Their demagoguery will not be allowed by the people of Pakistan, as they have seen their accomplishments in Afghanistan. Were they sincere to the people of Pakistan, to the cause of Islam, they would have proceeded to unite all Muslims, from UAE, to Saudi Arabia and all the rest. What can Pakistan alone do in the face of the entire world being on one side, particularly, the Muslim world? They know it but they only mean to capture power whatever the cost! The people must tell them to remain patient, its going to be a long war, during which the time will present certain opportunities to wrest the initiative from the enemy! In any case, like the past, Pakistan will have to fight its own war entirely by itself!

The Frankenstein’s monster had grown so blind for its own interests that it never restricted war or conflict, until it clearly experienced the monster’s presence at every doorstep in it, within its own premises. Let the people of America be mindful of the fast changing trends obtaining across the board, in the global village. If they do not compel their own think-tanks to do equitable justice (unlike the one that is demanding immunity for the American soldiers from trial by the International Criminal Court (ICC), to all, and maintains the status quo with the help of Veto powers, at the altar of the rest of the world, there can never be the peace on this planet. In any case, the Veto power’s soldiers are not angels descending from heaven, while all others are the soldiers of the ordinary mortals! The whole world, particularly the Third World, will, before long, be coming out with a united and irresistible response to the Veto Power’s excesses and will not allow status quo, self-petuation and manipulation of its resources by them Dr. Henry Kissenger’s revelation that Pakistan is like a thorn on India’s sides, is a real nasty observation. Having seen Uncle Sam’s record, no one in India or Pakistan will buy this intrigue — times have changed.

The peoples of Pakistan and India have seen how and for what reasons has the US managed a comeback to the subcontinent and Central Asia. Before leaving Afghanistan to capture Middle East, America had sown the seeds of terrorism and civil war in the world. The War-Lords, trained, financed and looked after by the affluent world power for the Globalisation of terrorism.

They looted the Muslims, became world’s greatest drug barons, whose ecstasy tablets also became the need for use by the common man, in the US and the West. Their riches grew like mashrooms in the Western banks. Obviously, the world’s good old famous money lender was doing all this for own left-behind agents and for future exploitations of the Central Asia. USSR was not, after all, packed back home for nothing! In the meanwhile, Zionist’s students, sought to establish themselves as armed parasites, in Pakistan, a state debilitated to resist, due to the heinous fall-out. They are using the same old slogan of Islam. Did Islam allow the killings and blood-letting of the believers? In future, they plan to take the intrigue into the Holy Qaba to smash the semblance of unity that still exists there despite their best efforts, amongst the Muslims. They will be realizing the dream of Abraham, by doing so! Just imagine, how the ground was prepared, and everybody made over-eager to welcome the Americans, how the self-respect and self-esteem, so much valued by the Afghans, was so very completely eroded? To hell with such idiotic slogan mongerers. A real heart-rending tragedy! The people of Pakistan are wise enough to choose a sane and practical way-out for themselves, they refuse to play as pawns in the power game of the warlords, who have shifted their focus to our beloved country, after destroying Afghanistan.

The people of Pakistan know that the war against terrorism will be most confusing, the most intractable and divisive, the most brutal of all types of war, a civil war. Like all civil wars, it will be fought among competing groups, for authority in and over an administrative or political unit, in this instance, the global village. Its outcome, probably decades hence, will determine by whose rules and whose behalf the emerging world community will be managed. Preponderant power is for the moment, in the hands of status quo governments and institutions. But if one looks at demographic trends, at the locations of scarce natural resources, at the likely willingness of societies to accept sacrifices, it seems clear that this preponderance need not necessarily be either decisive or permanent.

The struggle will be between the haves and have nots, between the relatively privileged and those who perceive themselves as under privileged. It will, therefore, be a struggle a war about the law, the rule of law, about justice, about human rights and individual freedoms — concepts which are still, sadly, neither universally accepted nor, in the last analysis, not altogether objective in content. It will also, inevitably, be about wealth and power. Islamic Fundamentalism (ignoring the xenophobic racism of the Zionists and the Fundamentalism of the Caste system of the Hindutva of racism, whose shamelessly fabricated allegations against the Muslims of Ahmedabad- India, have recently been proved false, both by all organizations within India, and by the foreign organizations), alone is being singled out to victimize the Muslims, by both these states, with the full backing of US and the West. Thousands of innocent Muslims were burnt to death and killed, while thousands of their womenfolk was mass raped in the Gujarat state of India. Though the vehicle of Islamic Fundamentalism is being used to whip frenzy against Muslims, the engine of Muslim’s this vehicle is fuming with resentment and violent rage for a quid pro quo, without delay. The self-perception of the US/EU about being moderate melts into thin liquid, when they are to display their traits in respect of Muslims. Their coloured glasses can’t see Muslim’s ethnic cleansing.

It is illusory and self-defeating to set ‘feel good’ ambitions, such as building a global consensus against terrorism, on a credible and solid foundation, while a horrific treatment is being meted out to the Muslims. It looks as though, the UNSC resolutions, in October 2001, were contrived to establish the rule of Zionists and the Hindu extremists, in their respective regions. All such arrangements will prove untenable, unless the UNSC resolutions are implemented to let the people of J&K, have their right to self-determination first. Emphasis on reforms, mutual welfare, human rights without discrimination, sincere reciprocity, alone can guarantee the beginning towards lasting peace. Peace has become inescapable, at the earliest, if the planet earth is to be saved.

Concluding deals of Sea-Harriers, Hawk Fighters, Jaguars, provision of Arrow Anti-Missiles to India and Israel, apart from AWACS systems, pilotless reconnaissance planes and other ultra modern equipment, during visits publicized as trips to India and Pakistan, for resolving their problems, is a device being used, on the contrary, to add fuel to the fire.

The question is how can the harrowing apprehensions of terrorism tormenting daily lives be ended, and an enduring peace be established? All members of the UNO, be treated as equal members of this world. Veto system be vanished from the statute of the UN. International Court of Justice be established by the 2/3rd majority of the Members, in the General Assembly. The Security Council be placed under the General Assembly, for carrying out the orders of the General Assembly. General Assembly should be made the fountain-head of this organization of the global village. This alone can rid the world from the unbridled and unending civil war, initiated by the Frankenstein’s monster to establish the rule of Indo-Israeli nexus, in their respective regions.
