IDEAS 2002 Ready for the Big Move This year, Pakistan will once again add further strength to its contributions towards peace and stability at the second International Defence Exhibition and Seminar, IDEAS 2002, with special emphasis on the measures, technology and equipment catering to the global cause of peace. The recent developments in this region have completely transformed the world into a place where peace is the core issue and the mechanics for its global implementation are needed to be understood and addressed. Pakistan’s role as a frontline state in the fight against terrorism makes IDEAS 2002 an ideal platform for interaction to discuss the importance of support services and equipment required by the multinational special operations forces for any intended theatre of operation. International Defence Seminar One of the highlights of IDEAS 2002 is the International Defence Seminar, being held on 16th September 2002 under the theme “Emerging Security Environment in Asia”. The Seminar programme complements the Exhibition by blending the geopolitical perspectives of Asian Defence Scenario with strategic, defence, operational and tactical issues relating to Asian Defence Markets in the most unique yet comprehensive manner. Featuring eminent Pakistani and international defence professionals and speakers, the IDEAS 2002 Seminar is aimed to serve as the most widely attended and interactive platform in the Asian region, presenting a unique international outlook for the new millennium, based on the theme “Arms For Peace”. With its special relevance to Asia and the Middle East, this event will provide a comprehensive update on the influence of technology on strategic thinking and defence equipment/systems development. The keynote, plenary sessions have been structured such that they will allow maximum time for interaction between speakers and participants during the day. The programme is designed to attract worldwide attention from the top-level decision makers, as well as marketing and business professionals from defence ministries, armed forces, defence technology organizations, research and training institutes and maintenance and engineering companies. The Asian Security Scenario will be discussed as a topic, while conferring upon the emerging security environment in the Asian region where papers providing detailed insights on topics such as Asian sub-regional environment, multi-lateral economic and defence cooperation and regional characteristic analysis with respect to the Afghan conflict and fallout, will be read. Leading industry professionals have been invited to address the attendees in order to provide a detailed outlook of vital security interests and capabilities of the Asian region. Discussing the Asian Defence Market as yet another topic, the seminar will feature papers read by eminent speakers from across the Asian region. The papers will provide thorough understanding of the existing defence industrial infrastructure, while keeping in view the prospects for cooperation in the R&D and transfer of technology. The papers will also discuss the existing defence market potential while recommending future strategies, keeping in view the impact of globalisation in Asia. Similar to the large attendance by high-level international defence delegations and dignitaries at the previous show, an even greater participation is expected at IDEAS 2002. Invitations have been extended to the ministry leaders and chiefs of the Armed Forces of a number of countries from almost every region, including America, Africa, Europe, Middle East, North Asia, South and East Asia and Australia. Having already achieved a well-deserved popularity and prominence in the defence market, IDEAS 2002 would now further pave the way towards mutual understanding and cooperation between the nations jointly involved in serving the global cause of peace where Pakistan keeps playing its dominant role in the Asian region. |
