For
Omar Asghar Khan’s parents and family
It is my sad duty to record the untimely death of
the illustrious son of DJ’s Chief Patron, Air Marshal (Retd) Asghar
Khan. Omar Asghar Khan was a very noble son of Pakistan and a matter
of great pride not only for his parents, extended family and many
friends, but for this entire country. While embodying the honesty and
integrity that is the hallmark of his father, he lived a full life in
pursuit of amelioration of the miseries of the common man. He was a
quiet, well-natured person who accomplished far more in his short life
span than many other comparable people manage in many lifetimes. Omar
was a complete human being with everything to live for. A family man
who was very much a team player, he refused to remain submerged under
his father’s giant shadow, he set out to do his own thing, achieving
a great deal in the socio-political sphere in a modest but determined
manner in a very short span of time. Visiting his parents and family a
few days ago to condole his death, I was struck by the quiet dignity
with which they bore their grievous loss. Omar would have been proud
of all of them, including his children, in the stoic manner they
looked after all those who came to his father’s house in Abbottabad.
Indeed that stark image remained etched in my mind and moved me to
tears on the road back to Islamabad. To eulogize Omar as his family
and friends would have remembered him, DJ has tried to compile all
that has been written in the past few weeks and dovetailed it with the
photographs sent by his mother. In spite of our profound grief at his
being taken from us in the prime of his youth, we will remember Omar
with the same warm happiness that he spread around him. This young man
has left an indelible footprint in the sands of time.
