When I received your letter today I became rather emotional
and in fact just broke down – you can’t
blame me for that because it is exactly half a century
ago (June 1953) that I was posted as GSO-3, 14 Division
directly subordinate to the GSO-2 Major Abdul Majeed
Sehgal. Somehow, even with watery eyes, I am feeling
the urge to pay tribute to the lasting memory of your
Dad who was then regarded merely as a good Army Officer
but today in perspective he emerges as the un-sung giant
of his times in his own particular mould and style.
This is a cruel and heartless world which makes one
feel bitter if such personality is allowed to fade away
into oblivion. The present and future generations would
never see his like again...more

There
is a perception around that it would be un-Islamic to
recognise Israel and that President Musharraf may do
it soon. Firstly, to my mind Musharraf has no intention
of recognizing Israel all by himself or that soon. All
he said was that it was time we took stock of the situation
and not try to be more Palestinian than the Palestinians
themselves. He intends to have the issue fully debated
by all at all forums. And, if other Muslim countries
recognize Israel or show inclination towards doing it,
as Saudis made it conditional to Israel vacating certain
territories, then Pakistan should also not keep itself
alienating from rest of the world or portray itself
as a diehard fundamentalist Islamic country and buy
the ill will of the west and other secular nations in
the process...more

I f troops must be sent to Iraq out
of some US-Pak relationship compulsion, then these should
comprise of Signallers, Engineers, Medics and Para-medics,
Logisticians to play a positive...more
