I often come to the DJ site to read articles of interest. It is the first time I was motivated to write.

The concept of national security went through a great thunderstorm after 9/11. In fact if we had been observant, the Desert Storm should have been enough to wake up the militarily weaker countries. Currently, such countries have two choices so far as maintaining their national security is concerned. First choice is to be militarily, economically and politically so strong as to be able to face the strongest opponent, (Example: the US). If unable to, then the second choice is to enter a regional alliance and hope to be collectively strong enough to face the strongest....more

Dear Sir,

The present Government has asked for a debate on the issue of, "Whether Pakistan should recognize Israel or not?" One can be sure, that it is a bargaining chip which is being used by the USA to benefit Israel by "putting the last nail in the coffin of the Muslim Ummah".

Dear Ikram-ul-Majeed Sehgal,

Mr Hameed Hussain deserves to be congratulated for the high quality of research in his article titled Words and Deeds carried by the Defence Journal in its September 2003 issue.

He has vividly highlighted the chequered past of front line Arabs states especially Syria and Iraq. Jordan was lucky to have an intelligent and sagacious monarch in King Hussain, who was able to steer his country towards peace with Israel and economic progress and stability in a sea of regional turmoil. He rightly states that Arab countries were afflicted with internal feuds, interstate conspiracies and rivalries. Syria kept conspiring against Jordan, and during two military standoffs the Syrian Army retreated only when it was beaten back by the better trained Jordanian Army....more
