The Balochistan Squeeze

Balochistan is under tremendous squeeze. Internal weaknesses have encouraged the external actors to play their provocative and disruptive role. From a behind the scene role covered under the smoke screen of denials, these actors have now picked up the courage to come to fore openly. Pakistan's reaction has been quite appropriate. Two demarches' to the American ambassador within a week would radiate amply strong message to others who are too prompt to kowtow American line on such issues. Ambassador Sherry Rehman needs to take charge of the situation and employ potent lobbyists, otherwise this campaign would snowball. Before long the issue would be raised in the House of Commons and later in the European Union etc..........more


Israeli attack on Iran

After the March 05 meeting with President Barrack Obama, Prime Minister of Israel Netanyahu feels free to attack and bomb Iran's nuclear installations. US Officials believe that President Obama's official and private acknowledgement of the Jewish states sovereign right to defend itself (against Irans threats) was a crucial gain for Israel to deter Tehran. Benjamin Netanyahu praised Obama's willingness to use US military might to counter Iran. This was in sharp contrast to the outcome of Obama-Netanyahu meeting last year when the Israeli Prime Minister was rebuffed and the meeting had ended in disagreement and acrimony. ....more

For war was not just a military campaign but also a parable. There were lessons of camaraderie and beauty and inscrutable fate. There were lessons of honor and courage; of compassion and sacrifice. And then there was the saddest lesson to be learned again and again. That war is corrupting. That it corrodes the soul and tarnishes the spirit. That even the excellent and the superior can be defiled. That no heart can remain unstained.
